What is AI visibility?

The short answer

AI visibility describes how visible a brand is in the answers of AI systems such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Google AI and Copilot. It decides whether a company gets named, recommended and correctly categorised when people ask AI systems about providers, products or solutions.

Why AI visibility matters now

People no longer only search on Google — they ask AI systems. The answer is not a list of ten blue links but a written recommendation with specific names. Anyone missing from it loses visibility before their website is ever visited.

Unlike classic search results, an AI answer usually names only three to five providers. The model makes that selection — based on websites, external sources, directories and trade articles.

What AI visibility is built from

AI systems form a topic picture of every brand: they connect companies with topics, categories and fields of competence. Those connections are fed by many signals:

  • Content and structure of your own website
  • External sources: trade articles, directories, press, reviews
  • Competitor mentions in the same topic field
  • Consistency of the signals over time

How to measure AI visibility

The first step is a stocktake: on which topics is the brand visible in AI answers, where are signals missing, which competitors hold those fields? That is what the Infera scan delivers: a one-off topic authority scan across five AI systems, as an entry point and without a subscription.
